Assessment

Psychological (or psychoeducational) assessment can be beneficial for pinpointing problems that are getting in the way of success at school. In order to obtain necessary supports in the classroom or specific educational placements, an assessment is required. An assessment with High Point may identify:

  • Attention disorders (ADHD)

  • Learning disorders

  • Mood and anxiety disorders

  • Intellectual ability

  • Giftedness

  • Language disorders

  • Behavioural problems

  • Post-concussion problems (or assistance in the decision to return to play or school post-concussion)

With each assessment, we provide an individual strengths and areas of need profile, with tailored recommendations to make things easier. At the end of assessment, we are happy to consult with your child's school and teachers to ensure their success. Click here for more information on assessment.

High Point also provides assessment for adults with attention and learning concerns, and cognitive assessments for PDD and AISH applications. Please contact us for more information.

Therapy

We provide individual and group therapy to children and adolescents with mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD and executive functioning problems, and social skills deficits.

We also have experience in providing in-home services for children and their families with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) from ages 3 through 18. We can provide behavioural therapy, parent coaching, and consultation. Many families are eligible for reimbursement for these services through Family Supports for Children with Disabilities

At this time, we are not able to offer counselling services for adults. However, we can refer you or help you find a qualified individual that will work with you.

Consultation

High Point provides consultation to parents who need some support with parenting a child with additional needs, discipline strategies, daily routines, and other parenting challenges. We can also consult on your behalf with your child's school to ensure they are receiving appropriate and beneficial supports in the classroom.

Psychological services can be expensive; however, an investment in your mental health will pay off in the long run. If you are needing financial assistance to obtain psychological services, check with your insurance provider. Many insurance plans offer limited reimbursement or full coverage for psychology costs. We are able to direct bill most insurance companies!

The Psychologists' Association of Alberta (PAA) Psychological Services Fund also provides funding for limited psychological services for clients who could not otherwise afford the services, and can be applied for by an Alberta psychologist on your behalf. Please contact us if you are interested in applying for this fund.

High Point Psychology accepts the following payment forms: cash, cheque, e-transfer, and all major credit cards.
